All warehouses which had been shut down in the Eastern Province are being re-opened to facilitate the purchase of paddy from the region.
Harvest of the paddy in the Eastern Province is already in progress and farmers have now begun to sell their yield. The Government has drawn up a streamlined programme to purchase the produce from the cultivators without experiencing any issues. The Paddy Storage Complex which had been shut down for a long period has been re-opened. The event took place under the auspices of Provincial Minister M.S. Uduman Lebbe. It will help to streamline the purchases. The Private sector purchases a bag weighing 66 kilograms at 1650 rupees. However, the price paid by the Government for such a bag is 1848 rupees.
