Minister Basil Rajapaksa has stressed that the Sri Lanka’s economic policy is based on the Mahinda Chinthana and not in accordance with the international requirements. The Minister was responding to Opposition allegations.
The Minister said that the Opposition is questioning as to how the budget deficit could be reduced by referring to one section of the Mahinda Chinthana. The target of reducing the deficit to 8 percent is not meant for the IMF. He observed that Mahinda Chinthana policy is a document that was presented to the public in 2005. The Government is attempting to reduce the deficit sans reducing state expenditure, investment or concessions. He stressed that the Government is giving much importance for investment.
