Jul 10, 2010 9:57:40 AM - itnnews.lk

The Health Ministry has warned that persons who maintain mosquito breeding grounds will be liable for a six month imprisonment.

The Defence Ministry has agreed to give support of all security sectors for the strict enforcement of the Mosquito Breeding Control Act countrywide. A special discussion to apprise all Security chiefs in this respect has been conducted. It was joined by Minister Maithripala Sirisena, Defence Secretary Gothabaya Rajapaksa, Chiefs of the Armed Forces, the IGP and the head of the Civil Defence Force.

The Presidential Task Force for the control of Dengue has unveiled a comprehensive programme throughout the island. The enforcement of the Mosquito Breeding Prevention Act has been made compulsory. The support of the Security sectors will be solicited for the resolution of practical problems that may surface in the implementation of the provisions of the Act. It was agreed at this discussion to appoint Security Coordinating Officers to represent the Armed Forces, the Police and the Civil Defence Force.
