The Ministry of Youth Affairs says it will build a park in Battaramulla with modern facilities for youth, fulfilling a long felt need. Dullas Alahapperuma, The minister for Youth affairs said that the Defense Secretary Gothabaya Rajapaksa who is also the head of the Urban Development Authority has allocated suitable land for the project. The park will include a mini cinema, a garden, an open air theater, a small gallery and restaurants.
In the light of the recent arrests by police of couples, in Vihara Mahadevi Park, Victoria Park and along the stretch of beach from Bambalapitya to Mount Lavania, the ministry said that young people lacked proper entertainment centers at affordable prices.
The minister added that it should be the minister himself who should be placed under arrest and not the couples, for not fulfilling his duty by providing the youth proper places where they could spent time together. The park will be open for those between the years of 18 and 30.
