90 percent of the country now enjoys electricity. Chairman of the Sri Lanka Public Utilities Commission Dr. Jayatissa De Costa said Government has drawn up plans to provide electricity to every household within the next three years.
Briefing the media, he said that Electricity is no more a luxury facility. Only some very remote villages do not have power supplies at present. However, according to plans drawn up by the government the entire country will have power supplies within the next three years,
The media briefing was summoned to brief journalists on the Sri Lanka Electricity Act No: 20 of 2009 enforced under the Sri Lanka Public Utilities Commission. The Power Industry is being officially regulated under the Commission. Chairman Jayatissa De Costa claimed that it is not impacted by any political interference.
