The Lessons Learnt and Reconciliation Commission appointed by the President meets again.
The President appointed the Commission to make recommendations on action that should be initiated in the future for future reconciliation and co-existence among all communities after learning lessons of the war. The Commission met under the chairmanship of President’s Counsel C.R. de Silva. Commission members are studying its future tasks including the examination of evidence from the public. The Commission intends to gather information under the first stage from the people in areas where operations took place in the North and East. The Commission expects to begin public hearings next month. It held regular meetings last month initially focusing on institutional matters to make preparations for the soon to follow public hearings The Presidential Commission is composed of eight veteran scholars who can make productive recommendations on behalf of the future of the motherland.
