The Central Province programme of the Api Wenuwen Api Housing Project gets underway under the auspices of President Rajapaksa.
The first 25 houses under the programme were handed over to war heroes today. It is part of the 700 houses planned to be constructed throughout the country. The President handed over the first house to the family of Samith Kumara Karunawansa of the Special Force of the Sri Lanka Army who was killed in action. The houses are being built on behalf of soldiers killed or disabled in action and for those who are in service. A notable feature is that the houses are being built on their own land. Many Parliamentarians and Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapakse were present. In addition members of the armed forces and the police were also present.
