Residents near Whaley asked to boil water

A 12-inch water line break caused the City of Columbia to issue a boil-water advisory Sunday night for residents in the vicinity of Whaley and Marion streets.
The advisory specifically affects residents of Whaley Street from Main to Pickens streets, Marion Street from Whaley Street to Rosewood Avenue, Evans Street and South Evans Street.
Residents on these streets should vigorously boil water for one full minute before using it for cooking, drinking or ice-making.
When water tests show the water to be free from contamination, Columbia Water Works will issue a repeal of the advisory.
The advisory is the second issued Sunday. A 6-inch line servicing the Hollywood Hills subdivision also broke, requiring certain parts of that neighborhood
to also boil water.
