The Central Environmental Authority has pointed out that the situation related to air pollution in the Kandy city is not serious.
It was revealed in the media recently that air pollution in the city was high. Accordingly, the Environment Ministry and the Central Environmental Authority conducted investigations. Accordingly, a centre was established within the city. The mobile vehicle, which was located in the City, monitored poisonous air data of the atmosphere from the 6th of this month up to date. Assistant Director of the Environmental Authority R.N.R. Jayaratne said the air pollution situation in the Kandy City was not serious when considering the data gathered by the mobile vehicle.
However, the Environmental Authority pointed out that the traffic plan within the Kandy City should be regularized. It said it was important for vehicle owners to properly maintain their vehicles. The emission of gas which is not conducive to the environment is high when the engines of buses are being activated for a long time. Another reason attributed to air pollution is traffic congestion. It is important to direct more attention to every sector to prevent the air pollution not only in the Kandy City, but in every town.
