Local Government Institutions which do not support the programme of controlling Dengue will be indicted. Minister Maithripala Sirisana gave this warning after opening the new Kidney Hospital built at Nikawewa in Polpithigama.
The Minister opined that it is the local bodies which are vested with the main responsibility in this issue. As Sri Lankan citizens should keep their surroundings clean, local councils should also do so. The Minister pointed out that local bodies which neglect this task will be indicted. He revealed that several such bodies had already been indicted.
The new Hospital will cater to the needs of patients suffering from kidney disease which is rife in the North Western Province. The hospital cost 27 million rupees. The Minister pointed out that of the allocation made for health in this budget 7 percent had been set apart to treat the kidney disease. The Minister said the new Hospital will also ease congestions in other hospitals.
