The University of South Carolina is letting members of the media get a sneak peek at its new library named for South Carolina's second-longest serving U.S. senator.
The Ernest F. Hollings Special Collections Library will be officially dedicated July 23, but a preview of the $18 million library is scheduled for Tuesday. The 88-year-old former governor won't be at the preview.
Located behind the school's Thomas Cooper Library, the facility will house the South Carolina Political Collections, documenting the careers of many of the state's political leaders. It will include a mini-theater for watching and listening to recordings from the collection.
Hollings donated his personal papers to the university in 1989. He retired from the Senate in 2005 after 38 years. He served as governor from 1959-63.
