Three people have pleaded guilty to their roles in a drug conspiracy that authorities say includes a former South Carolina sheriff.
U.S. Attorney Bill Nettles says Sheldon Bradley, Brenda Ellerby and Eric Hickmon entered their pleas on Tuesday in Columbia.
All three will be sentenced later. Bradley faces 10 years to life in prison for conspiracy to possess crack and powder cocaine. Hickmon's prior criminal record means he faces a mandatory 20-year sentence for the same charge. Ellerby could get four years for using a telecommunication facility to traffick drugs.
Former Lee County Sheriff E.J. Melvin and 11 others were arrested in May and charged as part of a drug conspiracy. Prosecutors say they expect to reach plea agreements with all defendants except Melvin.
