A man wanted on murder and other charges in Georgia was arrested at a Columbia apartment building Tuesday.
The Richland County Sheriff's Department arrested Jerome Jerrod Sturgis, 22, around 4 a.m. at the Richland Terrace Apartments, 1212 Metze Road. Sturgis is charged with two counts of murder, aggravated assault and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.
The charges stem from a July 4 incident in Augusta. Sturgis is accused of opening fire into a crowd of people, killing three.
The Richmond County Sheriff's Office received a tip that Sturgis was living in Columbia and asked for arrest assistance from Richland County.
Sturgis is being held at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center until he can be extradited back to Georgia.
