Police Media Spokesman S.P. Prishantha Jayakody has said that two suspects who were engaged in circulating fake currency notes amongst the resettled people in Kilinochchi have been arrested.
The Police Media Spokesman said the CID with the assistance of Army Intelligence Unit arrested two suspects who were dealing in fake currency notes in the Iranamadu area. Nearly 177 thousand rupees that consisted of 1000 and 2000 rupee currency notes were seized from their possession. One suspect is reported to be a resident of Paranthan while the other is from Vishwamadu. Investigations have revealed that the currency notes have been printed in Vavuniya. These spurious notes are believed to be in circulation in other areas of the country as well. The suspects are being detained by the CID for further interrogation. The Police request the people to exercise caution when accepting currency notes.
