Media reports from India say that the Police are interrogating pro LTTE politicians P. Nedumaran and Vaiko who have been taken into custody.
They were staging a protest near the Sri Lankan Mission in Chennai when being arrested. They were demanding that the panel appointed by the UN Secretary General be permitted to arrive in Sri Lanka. Nedumaran and Vaiko have maintained close relations with the LTTE for a number of years. Vaiko has also received arms training from the LTTE. Video footage that shows him receiving training from the LTTE when he is alleged to have secretly entered Sri Lanka in February 1989 has also been found. He has also participated in a passing out ceremony of the terrorists held in the Mulaitivu jungles. A close associate of Prabhakaran, Vaiko had sought the release of the terrorist leader even at the final moment.
