Jul 15, 2010 11:50:49 AM - itnnews.lk

The total number of IDP’s remaining in welfare centres in North at present is only 38,000. They were displaced due to terrorist activities.

Nearly 300 thousand civilians, who sought protection during the final stages of LTTE era were sheltered in Welfare Camps. However, they were gradually resettled in their places of origin in stages after the removal of mines and their security was ensured. Accordingly more than 200,000 civilians were resettled in the last few months. Only 38,127 still remain in four Welfare Camps. The Government’s desire is to complete the resettlement process by sending them back to their villages as soon as possible.

Another 3,000 are to be resettled in their villages in Kilinochchi by the 26th of this month. They will be resettled in three groups on the 18th, 22nd and 26th The Government’s intention is to prepare the background needed by these civilians to lead their lives in a peaceful environment.
