Cabinet proposals for North East development

Cabinet nod was received for several key proposals including the development of the North and East at its meeting held in Kilinochchi.

The Cabinet approved a proposal submitted by the President as Finance Minister to secure 150 million US Dollars from the Asian Development Bank for the implementation of urgent projects in war-affected areas.

Cabinet nod was received to develop more than 49 kilometres on the A34 Highway from Mankulam to Mullaitivu. It will be operative under an ADB loan.

Health services in the North and East will be upgraded. Cabinet approval was received to ink an agreement to secure Chinese aid to supply buildings and medical equipment.

A proposal to set up a National Coordinating Centre to monitor the removal of landmines in the North and East was approved. The proposal was submitted by Minister Basil Rajapaksa.

Agreement was reached to drop the fuel price in the North by three rupees. Prices will be further reduced from the 01st of next month.

The Cabinet adopted a proposal to hand over the construction of the proposed rail track from Matara to Beliatta to a Chinese firm. All Coordinating facilities will also be available.
