Fresh milk and chicken at reduced prices

A Project has been mooted to provide fresh milk and chicken at reduced prices.

The Livestock Development Ministry has unveiled the project as a solution to the high milk prices and a solution to the price of chicken. The first milk pack was handed over by Minister Arumugam Thondaman to the President who was on a visit to Kilinochchi. The Livestock Development Minister has launched this programme with the purpose of improving the nutritional standards of the Northern and Eastern children. A Litre pack of fresh milk will be sold at 99 rupees. Special outlets will be established in the North to undertake the sale of milk. An opportunity is also being afforded to purchase the milk at concessionary prices from Livestock Development Board outlets.

Minister Thondaman said their intention was to undertake the programme throughout the island in the near future. The President gave instructions to the Minister to implement a programme to provide chicken at reduced prices. Accordingly the public will be able to purchase a kilogram of chicken at 300 rupees.
