Minister Bandula Gunawardene has said that the Government is prepared to end the shortage of teachers by the next school term.
The Minister expressed these views at a media briefing held yesterday. The Minister said that teachers will be provided for the students in remote areas. He said that a competitive examination will be held for the first time in history for 554 graduates who have passed out in the English medium to be recruited as teachers. The examination will be held in 60 centres in Colombo on 18th Sunday. He expressed confidence that shortage of English teachers will be fulfilled by the next school term. The President has granted permission to recruit 3174 Aesthetic teachers on his capacity as the Finance Minister. He said that applications have been called for this while the gazette notification has been published in the newspapers. Those who have undergone training at the teachers’ training schools to qualify as teachers will also be granted appointments.
