A programme has been launched to conserve archeological sites and historic places of worship in the Kilinochchi area.

Due to the LTTE activities in the past, places of worship and archeological sites in the Kilinochchi area were destroyed. A meeting was held at the Kilinochchi District Secretariat under the patronage of minister Pavithra Wanniarachchi to raise awareness about the conservation programme in Grama Niladaries and Cultural Officials. The Government officials informed the Minister about the archeological sites in Kandawali, Sundi-kulum, Poonai, Arasa-kulum and Karachchi areas. The Minister advised the Director of Archaeology to take speedy measures for the conservation of these locations. The Minster also observed the damaged caused to Lumbini Vihara, St. Theresa’s Church and the Vishnu Kovil.
