A home in the Hamlet South subdivision of West Columbia caught fire Thursday, possibly the victim of a lightning strike.
Lexington County Fire Service firefighters were on the scene a few minutes after someone called about the fire at 4:40 p.m., the fire service said.
Smoke was coming from the roof and attic of the single-story house at 130 Santa Barbara Court. Crews brought the fire under control in about 20 minutes. Damages are estimated at about $50,000.
The fire service said it appears lighting struck a tree in the front yard and traveled to the house.
There were no residents at home and no injuries were reported.
