The President is attempting to become more accessible to people in all districts, according to the Minister of Disaster Relief and Human Rights, A H M Fowzie. Fowzie was commenting on the President’s aim to hold a Cabinet meeting in every district. This Wednesday, all the Cabinet Ministers traveled to Kilinochchi in order to participate in the first ever Cabinet meeting held in the former LTTE stronghold (Photo Gallery).
Fowzie said the Cabinet meeting was just one of many activities on the President’s agenda during the Kilinochchi visit. “[The Kilinochchi trip] was an official visit. It wasn’t only for the Cabinet meeting,” the Minister said. He added that the President had distributed bicycles and machinery to the people of Kilinochchi during the trip.
He further explained that it was felt the people in remote districts should not have to travel all the way to Colombo to voice their concerns. “The Ministers, and the President, must have mobile service. People [in all districts] should be able to talk to the Minister and get work done,” Fowzie said.
