Commuter fraternity will not be betrayed – Minister

Jul 19, 2010 12:14:38 PM - itnnews.lk

Minister Kumara Welgama has assured that the commuter fraternity will not be betrayed on behalf of politics or positions. The Minister was addressing officials of the Sri Lanka Transport Board.

The Minister said that the President had appointed him to rebuild the SLTB and make it a viable institution. About 25 percent of its earnings are swindled. No one can deny it. It is useless talking about this matter. If the depots are unable to pay the wages, the Depot Superintendent is not suitable to serve there. He should resign and enable an efficient person to take over his duties. He reminded that it was the government which was providing buses, tyres, engines and even batteries free of charge. If so, the Minister queries as to why they cannot properly manage the depots. Minister Welgama emphasized that he would transfer such persons and would not give in to politics. He said politicians will not be permitted to interfere in his activities.
