It’s three years since the achievement of the Eastern victory with the total liberation of the Province from the terrorists.
The Mawilaru sluice gate was shut down by the terrorists in August 2006. The action by the ruthless terrorists put the lives of innocent civilians of the East as well as the North who depended mainly on cultivation, experiencing enormous hardships. However, orders were issued by a bold Commander-in-Chief taking immediate action to save the lives of the Eastern polity and also prevent the income earning avenues blocked in the face of high handed parochial aims of terrorists. War heroes of the era unveiled a critical operation risking their lives on behalf of the motherland. The Mawilaru sluice gate was reopened, thus paving the way to irrigate the land of the East as well as the North. The LTTE strongholds started falling one by one, bringing peace to all villages in the Province.
In the face of the courageous initiatives taken by the war heroes, the terrorists fled to the North. The Lion Flag started fluttering in the Trincomalee and Batticaloa Districts and the East was joined to the motherland in July 2007. It was on the 19th of July 2007 that President Rajapaksa announced the message which reawakened the nation after several decades.
