The Government has drawn up plans to effect attractive salary increases for University lecturers.
Accordingly, the government’s desire is to hike the salary drawn at present by a Senior Lecturer to 200,000 rupees. Also, the salary hike for an Assistant Lecturer will be attractive. It is due to rise up to 72,000 rupees. In a statement to Parliament today, Minister S.B. Dissanayake said the Government anticipates in attracting University Lecturers who are abroad to Sri Lanka by this effort. The programme has received the full blessings of the President. However, the Minister emphasized that the support of everyone to the programme of increasing salaries of lecturers separating them from academic and non-academic staff, was necessary.
