Feds end bid to police Lake Murray docks

Federal officials gave up their bid Tuesday to take charge of policing big docks on Lake Murray.
The decision leaves the job with South Carolina Electric & Gas Co., the Cayce-based utility that oversees the 650-mile shoreline.
New SCE&G standards have necessary requirements and resource protection guidelines to protect coves from adverse impact of mega-docks, the decision said.
But the company must report its decisions on docks of up to 80 boat slips each year to the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, which keeps an eye on lakes built for hydropower.
