Greene on ‘crooked candidates’ list

Jul 20, 2010 7:51:00 PM - thestate.com
Democratic U.S. Senate nominee Alvin Greene was named to a top-10 list of “crooked candidates” by a Washington-based ethics watchdog.

Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington cited Greene’s failure to file required campaign finance documents, as well as “major questions about the legitimacy of Mr. Greene’s campaign.” Greene joins one other Democrat, an independent and eight Republican candidates on CREW’s list — including three candidates running for the same U.S. Senate seat in Florida.

The state Democratic Party declined to remove Greene from the ballot after a review of voting evidence proved no fraud. The State Law Enforcement Division concluded that Greene paid the $10,440 federal filing fee himself.

Greene is also facing felony obscenity charges after he was accused of showing pornographic images to a University of South Carolina student.

CREW also reprinted a quote from Greene about a job-creation plan that includes building action figures of him.
