A Rail-bus service between Polonnaruwa and Batticaloa has been planned. It will be launched on Friday.
The measure is being taken under the Eastern Resurgence Programme to provide a convenient transport service for the people in the East.
The Rail-bus service will be launched at 10.00 a.m. on Friday at the Polonnaruwa Railway station. The project is being launched at the cost of five million rupees.
The rail track has been renovated under the expenditure of one million rupees. It costs 450 million rupees to deploy a new train on the track. Therefore the Railway Department earns a profit of 444 million rupees through this project.
