The Government is mulling over the completion of construction on the Upper Kotmale Hydropower Plant by next year.
72 percent of the construction has already been completed. As soon as the project is completed, 150 megawatts will be added to the national grid.
Work on the construction of the main dam and the main tunnel running from the main dam to Niyangamdora in Kotmale has reached the final stage.
45 transmission towers which can carry a capacity of 220 megawatts and the underground power plant are now under construction.
The Government has already taken initiatives to provide houses with all facilities to 495 families displaced by the project.
