Another 457 million rupees is set aside for development projects in the Mahaweli B Zone.
The allocations have been made for future development projects this year. The Mahaweli Development Authority said that about 26 thousand farmer families within the Mahaweli B Zone in Polonnaruwa and Batticaloa will benefit with the implementation of these development projects.
A main plan will be streamlining water supply with the spending of new funds, the main canal which is 52 kilometers in length and sub canals with a length 65 kilometers will be reconstructed.
It is also planned to train farmers, implement environmental conservation programmes and under take livestock development.
The target for the second quarter of this year is to produce 917 thousand milliliters of fresh milk. Projects which are in implementation are due to be completed by 2012.
