Police say that investigations into the body of Sarath Wanigasekara, that was found bundled under a bed at no 509, Nanuoya, Pilimathalawa yesterday, have proved that the retired teacher had died of a heart attack and not under mysterious circumstances, as previously believed.
Reoprts said that the Peradeniya police yesterday had received a 119 telephone tip-off, following which a team led by the OIC had visited the residence of Sarath Wanigasekara, where they had discovered his body – with the face wrapped in cloth – under the bed.
The OIC of the Peradeniya police speaking to the Sunday Leader said that the post-mortem that was held today had revealed that the cause of death had been a heart attack and not foul play.
He added however, that at the time, Sarath Wanigasekara had been drinking with an acquaintance, and that the acquaintance – who had panicked – had hidden the body under the bed before fleeing.
Peradeniya Police is conducting further investigations.
