Minister Maithripala Sirisena has revealed of plans to further enhance facilities for the transplant of Liver locally.
The Minister visited the Colombo National Hospital to inquire into the conditions of Sujeeva Perera who is now recovering after a surgery carried out successfully for the transplanting of a Liver for the first time in Sri Lanka. This successful operation was carried out by Specialist Prof. Mandika Wijeratne, achieving another milestone in Sri Lanka’s medical history.
Minister Maithripala Sirisena said that a colossal sum is expended on surgeries carried out abroad. This drains out Sri lanka’s foreign exchange. As such, he pointed out that they have directed special attention to saving this valuable foreign exchange by expanding facilities for Liver transplants in the island.
