The CID has emphasised that the document submitted by former Army Commander Sarath Fonseka claiming that he had received permission to deploy Army deserters, was fake.
Sarath Fonseka had presented a missive saying that he had received permission from the Elections Chief to use the services of Army deserters during the Presidential poll. Investigations have revealed that this was a fake document presented by Sarath Fonseka. The CID had made this intimation to Courts.
The CID told the Colombo Magistrates Court that a special Army team visited Sarath Fonseka’s residence during the Presidential Election to arrest the Army deserters now who are in custody. When inquiries were made to determine whether the group comprised Army deserters, Sarath Fonseka had said that he had received authority from the Elections Commissioner to use their services. The Police told the Magistrate’s Court that they were further examining the missive submitted in this respect.
