An employee of the Land Reclamation and Development Board, D.P Sumandasa, was injured in an explosion yesterday, whilst cleaning out a canal in the Paliyawatte area of Dutugemunu Mawatha in Peliyagoda.
Reports say that the employee, who had been in close proximity of the explosion had only suffered minor injuries but had complained of aftershock and been taken to the Colombo National Hospital for treatment.
Officials from the Land Reclamation and Development Board told the Sunday Leader that Sumanadasa had been working on the canal when his machine had encountered the explosive, causing it to detonate.
According to police reports, the Bomb Disposal Unit had been called onto the scene following the explosion in order conduct investigations and ascertain the type of explosive.
The Peliyagoda Police Station is also cooperating with Bomb Disposal Unit in conducting investigations into the explosion.
