President Mahinda Rajapaksa today (24) called for a full report into the death of Ruhuna University student allegedly due to injuries received during an assault by the police on June 18.
The President has ordered the police, university authorities and other relevant officials to prepare the report.
The President directive comes a day after IGP Mahinda Balasuriya claimed that the student had passed away due to an ‘abnormality in the brain leading to a rupture of a blood vessel.’
He said that the Police was in possession of the JMO report regarding the death of the student who passed away at the Badulla Hospital.
The Inter University Students Federation (IUSF) said the third year student at the Ruhuna University, Susantha Aruna Bandara passed away on Thursday night as a result of the injuries he suffered following an assault by the police at the University premises last June.
IUSF Convener Udul Premaratne said Bandara had suffered severe injuries after being assaulted by the police on June 18 while he was at the university hostel.
