The Police Chief has prepared a special plan to minimize traffic congestion on the Colombo-Kandy Highway. It will be operative from the first of next month.
The Plan has been put forward as a solution particularly to traffic congestion in the Kegalla town on the Colombo-Kandy Highway. IGP Mahinda Balasuriya has introduced the new plan after scrutinizing 14 recommendations submitted by the Sabaragamuwa Provincial Council. Streamlined parking for three wheelers, permanent locations for pavement hawkers and facilities for pedestrians are among the initiatives incorporated in the plan. It has been estimated that the loss incurred as a result of traffic congestion in the Kegalla town is in the region of 2.7 million rupees. The implementation of new plan will enable to overcome this loss.
