Another phase of a programme, organized by the Independent Television Network, to support the control of Dengue ends successfully.
The Dengue control drive organized by ITN under the auspices of Lakhanda Radio commenced from Koswatta in Battaramulla. The Kaduwela Pradeshiya Sabha, the Talangama Police and the Kaduwela Regional Health Service Office joined ITN in this effort. The second stage was launched in the Kelaniya area. The main contributors to this effort were the MOH Office and the Kelaniya Police. The third stage of the programme was launched in Boralesgamuwa today. The Boralesgamuwaa Urban Council, the MOH Office, the Police and the Division Secretariat supported. Leaflets were distributed to every household appraising them of the importance of the drive while Dengue mosquito breeding grounds were inspected throughout the day.
Minister Gamini Lokuge and MOH Dr. J.M. Gunatilake participated. ITN’s intention is to moot this programme throughout the country.
In the meantime, students of Ananda College, Colombo and schools in the environs mooted another Dengue control programme. A notable feature was the involvement of the Army, the Police, the Colombo Municipal Council, the Rotary Club and some voluntary organizations, in this programme. Ananda College Principal L.M.D. Dharmasena was among those who joined in this occasion.
