10,000 more displaced resettled

Another group of the displaced has been resettled in their places of origin. The group included more than 10 thousand civilians. Military Spokesman Brig. Ubhaya Medawala said that the group was resettled within the past few weeks.

The Military Spokesman said that altogether 10,075 displaced persons were resettled during this month. The were resettled in the Kilinochchi, Vavuniya, Mullaitivu and Mannar Districts. At present only five IDP Camps are being maintained. Earlier there were 25 such camps. He disclosed that only 36,200 remaining IDP’s had to be resettled.

Over 200,000 persons who had been displaced due to terrorist activities had already been resettled. The de-mining is in the final stages. Accordingly, the Government is optimistic that the resettlement process could be completed soon.
