Dearth of teachers will be eliminated

The Government is shouldering the task of moulding intelligent and the knowledgeable required for a developed country. President Rajapaksa also said a special programme is being mooted to overcome the dearth of teachers.

The President pointed out that the shortage of teachers is an issue raised in every part of the country. He said he was unaware as to who created this issue. But, there are many who are in surplus in offices. He did not know as to why such an excess prevailed in these offices. It is opportune to look into this matter. There’s an excess in some schools while a dearth prevails in other schools. The President queried as to the purpose of building schools. It is for the children that schools are being established. But, it is a problem for him as to who the schools function. He emphasized that there should be a change in this process if a better and exemplary society was to be created. Every person who is responsible should identify as to their task and be dedicated in directing the children towards the correct path.

The President was speaking after the opening of the Sri Lanka – Singapore Friendship School in Weeraketiya. It has been constructed on a block of land of the Kondagala Vihare, spanning four acres. It cost 245 million rupees. The school has 24 class rooms and is equipped with two libraries and two Computer laboratories. The Singapore Friendship School also has two laboratories. 70 students who had excelled in the year-five scholarship examination have been recruited. Classes will be conducted from Grade Six.

Speaking further, the President emphasized that the Government has drawn its dire attention towards the education of children. He stressed that they would not hesitate to take stern action against irregularities in society. First Lady Shiranthi Rajapaksa and several Parliamentarians were present.
