President Rajapaksa is of the view that the education programme centering the Temple and the Church should be revived. The President said that the social system in which moral values are facing deterioration should be ended.
The President pointed out that a massive development programme is in progress in the country. It is of no use if the children are not properly moulded and directed towards the correct path. This will be a great issue. They should be given an education in English, provided vocational training and a knowledge in computer technology. The President stressed that the Temple could be used as a base to direct the children towards the correct path and arm them with knowledge and experience.
The President participated in the unveiling of the Samadhi Buddha Statue built at the Julampitiya Sri Punyawardenarama Vihare. This Samadhi Buddha Statue has been built in memory of D.A. Rajapaksa. Speaking further, the President pointed out that the Government had unveiled a programme to establish vocational training centres affiliated to all Vihares.
The President used the opportunity to have a cordial discussion with devotees who had converged on the Punyawardenarama Vihare in view of the Esala Full Moon Poya Day. Chief Incumbent of the Vihare the Ven. Kuda-hille Chandima thera and Parliamentarians Namal Rajapaksa and V.K. Indika were present on this occasion.
