The UNP supporter who sat himself alight demanding that the party should not be restructured has succumbed to injuries. A spokesman for the Colombo National Hospital said he suffered severe burnt injuries.
He had suffered severe harm to his internal organs. The victim passed away this morning. The hospital spokesman said family relatives had identified him.
Rienzi Algama, a UNP loyalist set himself on fire opposite the Sirikotha. He had said that he was a supporter who had worked untiringly for the party.
An eye witness told Prime TV that Mr. Algama, immediately, a staunch UNP supporter after saying that the party reforms should not be undertaken had set himself alight.
Soon afterward incident, Rienzi Algama was admitted to the Colombo South hospital. Thereafter he was transferred to the Colombo National Hospital due to his critical condition. The untiring efforts by the hospital staff including the doctors to save him came a cropper.
