It was a landmark year. Michael Jordon retired, New Kids on The Block split and Cheers got canned. Prince decided to change his name only to change it back. Andre the Giant died and the Power Rangers and Jurassic Park were born.
The year 1993 also saw the birth of Sri Lanka’s first private radio station 101.7 TNL Rocks, a CHR/Top 40 format radio station that gained international recognition when it was awarded the NAB Award for Broadcast Excellence back in 1997.
Today, the station hosts internationally acclaimed programs like American Top 40 with Ryan Seacrest, Expat Chart Show with Spencer James and more.
Talking about the station’s journey thus far, Manager of Programming of TNL Rocks, Bimalee de Silva said, “101.7 TNL Rocks is more than a radio station. We offer a user driven product, where listeners can vote on the music we play, send in their play lists, upload their own music which the station will play, create countdowns, chat directly with our jocks and so much more and this is how we give our listeners exactly what they want."
All this and more through the more recently launched TNL Life, Sri Lanka’s pioneering social networking utility exclusive for the TNL community.
