More than 232,000 displaced persons had already been resettled. Minister Keheliya Rambukwella said that only about 35,000 had to be re-settled in their places of origin.
Addressing a news briefing at the Media Centre for National Security, he said that in less than a year, they were able to resettle almost 85 percent of the displaced persons. This has left only 35,333 persons as up to date. If it is considered on an average, roughly about 700 people had been resettled on a daily basis. The Minister said they were proud to announce that almost 85 percent of the displaced had been resettled. Their safety must be guaranteed. He revealed that an estimated 1.5 million landmines had been buried and they were being unearthed.
