Former Richland County Recreation Commission executive director Brian Devost, who was fired in March after seven months on the job, will be paid $90,000 in severance pay.
Commission chairwoman J. Marie Green said in March that the commissioners felt Devost wasnt a good fit for the agency. He was fired in a 4-2 vote.
At the time, Green said Devosts contract allowed for him to be let go with no special severance package, indicating he would get one months salary. But after Devosts attorney contacted the agency, the commissioners voted in April to begin discussions with Devost on a severance settlement.
They approved a severance of one years salary at a special called meeting May 4. Both sides declined comment on the severance other than the amount.
Longtime agency employee James Brown took over as interim executive director in March. Green said Monday that the commission will begin discussions about the search for a new executive director in September, and two community leaders at Mondays commission meeting recommended Brown for the job.
