The waste water management project in greater Colombo will be launched this year. The project will be carried out by the Ministry of Local Government and Provincial Councils.
The Government Information Department has said that the Asian Development Bank is granting aid worth 100 million US Dollars in this connection.
The Government will also make allocations. The drainage system in Colombo had been planned in 1896 and its construction was completed in 1925.
The Information Department pointed out that the system cannot meet the current requirements and hence measures were taken for its modernization. Under the project four pump houses will be newly constructed while seven pump houses will be renovated.
