The Electricity Board will be transformed into a viable institution providing maximum relief to the consumers. Speaking at a news briefing yesterday Minister Patalie Champika Ranawaka said that several plans are underway to achieve this target.
The Minister said the first step will be to start using cheaper sources of energy during the next five years in power plants which are currently being operated with diesel. Renewable sources of energy will also be introduced. He said that the costs for the new programme are currently being calculated. The National Grid will be completely modernized. He said that their target for the next five years will be to make CEB, an institution that does not incur losses.
