Japan has agreed to enter into a Free Trade Agreement with Sri Lanka.
Masayuki Naoshima, Minister of Economy Trade and Industry in Japan said that Japan is prepared to have consultations with regard to a Free Trade Agreement. He expressed this view at a meeting held with visiting Ministers Prof. G.L. Peiris and Basil Rajapaksa in Tokyo. Japanese Prime Minister Naoto Kan has also stated that the aim of the new agreement is to increase economic cooperation between the two countries.
The two Ministers also participated in a programme to raise awareness on the vast investment opportunities available in the country in Japanese Investors and Entrepreneurs. Emphasis was laid on sectors such as construction, fisheries, health, small and medium scale industries and value added agricultural and marketing products.
