135 Billion Rupees has been spent within four years on massive development carried out within the Central Province. This was revealed at a progress Review meeting chaired by the President in Kandy.
The meeting to review progress on the development projects mooted in the Central Province was held under the auspices of the President at the President’s House in Kandy this morning. The discussions centred at length on the development projects launched in the Kandy, Nuwara Eliya and Matale Districts in the last four years. The expenditure incurred on large scale projects such irrigation, water and power within the Province exceeded 66 billion rupees. The President emphasized the need to further expand the development projects and pass on the benefits to all communities.
All communities and people who profess different faiths should enjoy the opportunity of leading prosperous lives. The meeting directed special attention on improving the education of the children as well as the health conditions by uplifting the livelihoods in the Estate Sector. The President instructed to launch a programme to educate children of the estate sector leaving schools before completing their studies after the conduct a streamlined study on them. The meeting also adverted attention on several programmes including infrastructure development and beautification of towns.
