The Ministry of Labour Relations and Productivity is starting a programme to draw the school leavers towards self-employment.
Assistance will be sought from the Technology Development Board, state Banks and Export Development Board amongst other organizations. The unemployment rate in Sri Lanka has currently dropped to eight percent. Deputy Minister Dr. Jagath Balasuriya said that it can be further reduced under the new programme. The Deputy Minister expressed these views at a seminar for young entrepreneurs held at the Kegalle Town Hall.
