Train services between Galle and Matara will be suspended from mid-night today. Commercial Superintendent of Railways Wijaya Samarasinghe said the train services will be halted for 4 months for the development of the rail track between Galle and Matara.
He said train services between Galle and Matara will be suspended due to the development with a Line of credit from the Indian Government. After the renovation, trains can run at the speed of 100 kilometers per hour. Minister Kumara Welgama and General Manager of Railways K. V. R. Gunasekara have decided to deploy SLTB buses from Galle to Matara and vice versa to minimize the inconvenience caused to the commuters.
